Emergent church. What is it? Good? Bad? Ugly? Give me your thoughts. (With a few responses, this could be really fun.)

From what I've read on-line, I have to say...RUN...stay in the Word and keep your eyes on Christ!

I want to clarify my last comment...RUN away from "emergent"! If we, the Church, ever leave the cross of Christ we are real danger!

The Emergent Church formed by Brian McClaren, Tony Jones and others is a reproach to the true gospel message of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. Tony Jones states in a recent article that the "gay" lifestyle is a "biblical" lifestyle. Not sure what his definition of "biblical" might be, but it is NOT biblical according to my Bible. The Word of God is clear regarding the subject of homosexuality - it's sin against God....it's unnatural, not normal, it's sexual immorality. Romans Chapter One speaks very clear on this issue.

The Emergent Church began as a self-conscious effort to make Christianity more suitable to a postmodern culture. They basically say, "Christianity needs to be rethought….redone to reach the postmodern generation. We need to come up with a new faith for the 21st century." The problem is, The Emergent Church has succumbed themselves to post-modern thinking and deception. The Emergent Church is not a living testimony of Jesus to a lost post-modern generation. They fit hand in glove with the post-modern generation.

The Emergent Church doesn't like talking to lost people about Jesus dying on the cross to pay the penalty for their sins. They don't talk to the lost about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and salvation......they do their best to stay away from conversation such as this.

The Emergent Church is in to dialogue and feelings and experiences. They enjoy having church in darkened sanctuaries with lit candles....etc......many have actually gone back into mysticism - doing what the 3rd and 4th century monks did....contemplative prayer....emptying their minds....chanting mantras.....etc....this only opens an individual up to demons....

The Bible never tells us to SEEK experience. The Bible tells us to SEEK HIM....seek Jesus. When we seek Jesus, we will experience him, but we do not seek after experiences. Many have had demonic encounters because they have sought after experiences instead of seeking Jesus.

The Emergent Church is leading many people into deception...false teaching. They teach another gospel message. It's not the gospel according to the Bible.

If you are in an Emergent Church, I strongly advise you to leave and find yourself a church that preaches the true gospel message.

The Emergent Church is a terrible misrepresentation of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. May God have mercy on all those who are involved in this organization of churches.

"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." 2 Tim 4:2-5
